Canvas was born out of a belief that art and culture benefit all of us and we strive to do what we can to support and empower those who create. We work with a diverse range of artists across disciplines and at various stages of their careers, from supporting them in their early discussions with a new gallery to negotiating a commission for a public installation.

Artists have become more empowered in recent years and some may take the decision to represent themselves, opt for a less traditional relationship with a gallery, or negotiate a contractual Artist Re-Sale Royalty above the statutory amount. We regularly advise both represented and unrepresented artists on structuring their business, consignments, online-only and studio sales, website terms, moving artworks between countries, licensing the use of copyright in their work and working with third parties such as fabricators, installers and art handlers.

We are also there when issues arise, from recovering artworks in a non-payment or insolvency situation, commencing or responding to copyright infringement claims to resolving a dispute with a gallery or customer.
