Our Commitments
Through our work, Canvas encourages access to culture and heritage for all. We support and advocate for the preservation of heritage for future generations, from regeneration of ancient traditions and crafts, to revitalising language and customs, as well as protection of our physical heritage sites and landscapes. Mindful that today’s contemporary is tomorrow’s heritage, we champion artists’ rights and bang the drum for creators’ working conditions. Together with our clients, we strive to ensure art, culture and heritage are valued, preserved and utilised as tools to support inclusive and resilient communities.
Sustainability
Social: We strive to increase access to guidance, support and education in the arts areas regardless of location, background and circumstances.
Economic: As part of the Somerset House Exchange, we collaborate with a network of innovative local individuals and businesses. To ensure we support those on our doorstep, we will always look within the Exchange first when considering suppliers or services.
Ecological: At Canvas we try to do our bit as best we can and so whenever possible, we operate a paperless office and avoid printing. This means we won’t send you hard copy documents unless you specifically ask us to or they are originals that you need to keep hold of. We also operate e-filing and e-billing systems. Our team often work from home, to reduce commuting and when we’re in the office we are part of a shared community of like-minded businesses.
Inclusion
We recognise that the art world can often feel exclusive, both to those who want to collect or experience art and artists and galleries making a name for themselves. We want to encourage inclusion in the arts and in particular, to increase information and opportunities for those who are under-represented. We are on the look-out for potential partners who represent artists or art businesses of African, Caribbean, East Asian, South Asian and South East Asian heritage, people in the arts who are D/deaf, neurodivergent, or disabled, as well as those who identify as LGBTQI+ or experience barriers due to their socio-economic background to see how we may be able to help through training, events and workshops or by lending our legal support on projects.
