Mary Rinebold
Consultant
Mary is a Consultant at Canvas and brings to both the commercial and institutional art spheres an extensive knowledge informed by a legal education and practical art world experience. At Canvas, Mary works with artists, galleries, auction houses and online platforms and is particularly interested in providing artists and cultural entities with a clear and accessible understanding of their position and rights.
Previously, Mary served for over ten years as an art provenance and auction specialist for Old Master through Contemporary art works at Artnet, including establishing and managing a long-running partnership with Sotheby’s. Parallel to this art market experience, Mary is a writer and a curator, having written for art magazines that include Artforum, Flash Art, and Art in America, and continues to contribute essays and fiction writing to artists’ exhibition and monographs. She co-founded and co-directed the curating office Kunstverein New York, alongside having edited publications and organised exhibitions in London and France.
Mary continues to work closely with artists and maintain long-time relationships with an international grouping of galleries and institutions. Mary has undertaken appraisal studies at New York University, holds an MFA in Art Writing from Goldsmiths College, and completed her LLM in Art, Business and Law from Queen Mary.
